Meet Dr Mikaeya the Super Twin mommy who believes in taking one day at a time!
It was a sunny morning…Ahhhh I actually don’t remember….may be it was a cloudy morning…I was groggy and had just woken up….the first thing I do is the glance at my Instagram and here she was….a beautiful, amazing, super cute mom to twins, the twin girls were always smiling in the pics and voila…I nominated her as the SuperMOM in my head.
When she got back, we instantly became friends and thus we have continued our journey of becoming even closer friends via the #Supermomsofthe world initiative.
Do read on to know about our #twinsupermommy and #SuperMOMJuly in detail.
So Mommy, tell us in detail about your Instagram and the blog and the concept of the same? My Instagram @coloryourhealth and my blog www.coloryourhealth.com were both started after I found the need for more resources for mom’s (and women in general) focused on living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I also like to approach the subject in an exciting and colourful way to make health as appealing as possible!
So, are you born and brought up in the
USA? If not tell us something about your life while you grew up? Family? Siblings? I have been born in raised in the USA, right in the middle
of the state of Kansas. I have 2 brothers and one sister and am very close to both my parents. The family is everything to me!
I feel like being a mom in the USA brings more pressure but at the same time support. In the USA we are very much a perfectionist society and put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be the best at everything. But with that comes a lot of support from other moms because they understand this and there are many moms’s out there who go out of their way to help others out and be a support system.
How do you feel about being a mom to twin girls?
I love being a twin, mom! Yes, there are times that are hard and supremely difficult but there are also many times of just feeling grateful for having two wonderful children and the special bond that they are creating. I wouldn’t want it any other way!
But……Raising twins comes with its own set of difficulties but also advantages. The hardest part is that they feed off of each other and when fighting and disagreements occur it is escalated by two! It is also hard to be able to have true one on one quality time with each of them. But they play together really well usually and they set good examples for each other most of the time!
How do u balance the day with the kids and plus Instagram, being a doctor and the blog and personal stuff?
Balance is definitely a hard thing. People ask all the time how I balance it all, and, honestly, I don’t. That is, I don’t balance it all every day. I pick a few things every day to focus on and try not to worry about the rest. For example, I always focus on my husband and kids but on the days that I work that’s about all I can handle. So the Instagram and the blog and the cleaning can all wait. On the days that I have off and on the weekends I add in those other things. I try not to cram too much in one day and rather focus on the long-term goals.
Tell us something about your pregnancy? How was it?
I absolutely loved being pregnant! With having a twin pregnancy I had some rough times but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It was such a special time and brought our families so close together. I did have to stay in the hospital for two weeks on bedrest as I went into labour early at 31 weeks. They were able to stop my labour and I ended up making it to 37 weeks!
Any special message that you would like to give our Supermommies?
My message to other moms is always, take it one day at a time! Life gets hard and on those days….just give yourself some space and some grace. Always remember “this too shall pass” when those tough and overwhelming days roll in. As they say…When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
How has technology changed mommyhood? Technology has changed motherhood for the better. It has allowed mom’s to be able to connect with other like-minded
moms and women around the world and gain support and no they are not alone in the hard yet rewarding journey.
Tell us your views on the maternity leave policy in the USA? I truly wish the USA had a better maternity leave policy. Most jobs will give a woman leave for up to 12 weeks and then they are required to return back to work or their positions are able to be filled by someone else. Now some mom’s may want to go back at around 12 weeks but I would prefer
moms have more options to extend their leave up to 1 year if they wish.
Any books that you have read in recent times and would recommend for parents. I have definitely not gotten as much time to read as I would like to but I would recommend the book “
how to talk to your kids will listen and listen so your kids will talk”. It’s a long book but lots of good information there!
Special message and anything that u wanna add to the Supermoms of the Globe
My special message for all moms around the world would just be- pursue your dreams, no matter how big or how small, just go for them. One day at a time!
Any special message for the Instagram mommies? Any selfie tricks? or tricks to click your kid’s photos, because we love them!
My advice for photos and Instagram is keeping it real! Don’t try to pursue perfection- obviously, post nice photos because that’s what everyone wants to see but talk about that real life behind those photos! I wish I was good at selfies but I am definitely not so no advice there. LOL! And last but not least I am not against a small bribe (like M&M’s or sucker) for having the girls take a photo for me, it’s a win-win for everyone!!
I hope you really enjoyed reading this one!
