Classic Christmas Movies: Our Favourite Family Films for the Festive Season

I really believe that movies can teach the kids a ton of things, discipline, honesty, hard-work, a zest towards life, a positive outlook and of course you get entertained while watching the film as well. So why not snuggle in a cosy blanket with a glass of hot chocolate and watch these movies with your kids.

Home Alone: (1990)

A go-to Christmas film. Entertaining for kids, teens, and parents, this is a hilarious Christmas favourite for everyone! When 8-year-old Kevin is accidentally left behind during the holidays, he underestimates the danger (and adventure!) coming his way. Your whole family will be impressed by the crafty traps and tricks Kevin has up his sleeve. Just be careful your little ones don’t get too many ingenious prank ideas!

Recommended for: Ages 7 and up. Rated: PG
Runtime: 103 minutes

Shrek 1/2/3 or Christmas Specials like Shrek Halls.

While Shrek is not a natural choice for Christmas, they have many specials coming up every season and guess what they have a Christmas special as well. Available on Netflix this will be a fun hour spent with your kiddo! Available on Netflix.

Recommended for: Ages 7 and up (with bits you may need to fast forward)
Runtime: 30 minutes

A Storybots Christmas

An ideal Christmas special movie to watch with your kids the story begins when Bo mistakenly thinks that her friends don’t like her gifts, she heads to the North Pole to ask Santa for help making better presents. She learns along the way that Christmas is about far more than just the toys. Ideal to teach the kids the importance of Christmas and available on Netflix.

The Holiday

While this movie definitely has bits that you would wanna fast forward with your kid around, the entire landscape of the movie makes it for an ideal Christmas Watch. The Story of this movie is fairly simple and about two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.

Recommended for: Not ideally for kids but can watch with an older one around. PG-13
Runtime: 138 minutes

Moving on to some must watch Hindi movies….

Taare Zameen Par

When I saw this move in the theatre a decade ago, I always had this secret desire to watch it with my kid when he/she is old enough to understand and when this is the case I am not wasting another chance to watch it with Renny this holiday season. This has nothing to do with Christmas but this movie beautifully showcases the story of a young boy struggling with Dyslexia. In fact, this movie completes a decade today as it released on 21st December 2007. Available on Netflix.

Recommended for: 4 Years and above with parental guidance.
Runtime: 165 minutes

Dangal

Another Aamir Khan starer which I saw this movie in the theatre with my daughter who enjoyed it to its core and she enjoys the first half of the movie a lot and hence this even came up on the recommendation list to watch during Christmas. This has nothing to do with Christmas but a beautiful story about former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his two wrestler daughters Geeta and Babita who struggle towards glory at the Commonwealth Games in the face of societal oppression. Available on Netflix.

Recommended for: 4 Years and above with parental guidance.
Runtime: 161 minutes

Hope you really enjoyed this trailer and would definitely watch one of these movies this christmas!

XOXO

Keep on Watching
